Just about 10 minutes from Montefranco and Umbria Holiday Home, nestled in the green heart of
the Valnerina valley, Ferentillo is a charming village that blends history, mystery and natural
beauty. The village is divided into two distinct areas, Matterella and Precetto, separated by the
Nera River and dominated by ancient medieval castles. Its origins date back to the Lombard
period, and wandering through its narrow streets and stone stairways feels like stepping back
in time.
Ferentillo’s most famous attraction is undoubtedly the Museum of Mummies, housed in the
crypt of the Church of Santo Stefano, where visitors can see naturally mummified bodies and
discover fascinating stories about life in the village over the centuries. Ferentillo is also an
excellent starting point for outdoor activities: the area is home to internationally renowned
climbing cliffs, scenic hiking trails and cycling routes along the river.
After your visit, take time to stop at one of the local trattorias to enjoy traditional Umbrian
dishes such as pasta alla norcina or fresh trout from the Nera River.
