About a 20-minute drive from Montefranco, Terni is a lively and welcoming city, known as the
“City of Steel” for its strong industrial heritage, but also as the city of Saint Valentine, the
patron saint of lovers. His feast day is celebrated on 14 February with religious ceremonies
and cultural events held throughout the city.
The compact historic centre, easy to explore on foot, is home to several landmarks such as
the Basilica of Saint Valentine, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the Roman
Amphitheatre, which bear witness to the city’s ancient origins. Nearby, the Archaeological
Museum displays artefacts that tell the story of the area from prehistoric times to the Roman
period.
Terni is also an excellent base for nature excursions: just a few kilometres away you will find
the Marmore Falls and Lake Piediluco, both ideal for outdoor activities and relaxing moments
in nature. After your cultural visit, take time to stop at the city’s restaurants and traditional
trattorias to enjoy typical Umbrian dishes such as strangozzi with truffles, local cheese bread
and herb omelettes.
